Florida State and LSU to Meet in Primetime on Sunday, Sept. 3, in Orlando

ORLANDO, Florida — The 2023 Camping World Kickoff featuring the Florida State Seminoles and LSU Tigers will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 3. The game, played at Camping World Stadium, will air live on ABC.

ESPN confirmed the time and broadcast details for its marquee Week 1 matchup on Tuesday during The Walt Disney Company’s Advertising Upfront in New York.

“College football is a huge part of our DNA and one of our top priorities year after year,” ESPN Chairman James Pitaro said. “Making sure that we have a compelling schedule is incredibly important to us. As we sit here today, I feel really good about what we’re looking at for the fall.”

This year’s Camping World Kickoff will mark the 11th all-time contest between the Tigers and Seminoles. The teams’ most recent head-to-head meeting came last September, with Florida State claiming a 24-23 win at the Superdome in New Orleans. For the rematch, FSU and LSU will also return to the site of each school’s last game — postseason wins in the Cheez-It Bowl and Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, respectively.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome our two latest bowl champions back to town for this unique regular-season encore,” Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan said. “The atmosphere at Camping World Stadium is going to be absolutely electric, and we look to having the eyes of the college football world on Orlando this Labor Day weekend.”

Florida State enters the game 9-0-2 in 11 previous contests in Orlando, including a 35-32 victory over Oklahoma in last year’s Cheez-It Bowl. The Seminoles’ regular-season history at Camping World Stadium also includes neutral-site wins over Memphis, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Duke and Wake Forest between 1990 and 1996 and a Camping World Kickoff victory over Ole Miss in 2016.

LSU, meanwhile, defeated Purdue 63-7 in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Jan. 2 to earn its 10th win of the 2022 season and improve to 3-3 across six Orlando bowl appearances, with previous Citrus Bowl wins coming against Louisville (2017) and Wake Forest (1979).
